Purpose limitation and minimisation
Identify the lawful purpose, submit only necessary information and limit the audience. Align retention and deletion with your POPIA programme.
Consent and authority
Obtain consent where required or record another lawful authority. ID + Photo requires explicit biometric consent.
Human review
A result must not be the sole automated basis for employment, credit, insurance, housing or access decisions. Investigate matches and use trained reviewers for manual_review.
Acceptable use
Do not enumerate people, submit fabricated production data, evade controls, share reports outside the authorised audience or facilitate unlawful discrimination.
Sources and ownership
SmartVerify is independent. Selected provider mappings may use VerifyNow; provider documentation is at verifynow.co.za/api-docs ↗. The SmartVerify portal remains authoritative for account access, enabled services, pricing and support.
Use fixtures, mocks and validation failures. Never publish credentials, raw payloads or real personal data.
